In short, no, you can’t hack these to make them faster.
In order to make the sensors reliable, there is a certain
hysteresis required to stabilize the signal and to filter out
some of the ambient light noise. These sensors can also be
fooled by external light shining on them and also by what
Sharp calls “glittery” surfaces like mirrors and glass.
