I started with the cover/weapon platform shown in
Figure 2, then I decided to break it down into the two
parts shown in Figures 3 and 4. The first reason for this
“breakup” was to allow smaller printers like the Afinia to
make the parts; the second reason was to allow use of the
rear cover to create a battery access hatch.
I also added four mounting holes to the front cover in
order to mount a motor for a spinner weapon. This is when
I discovered that when the motor was mounted directly to
the cover, the weapon would never make contact with
other PBOD craft. The motor needed to be tilted in order
for the spinner to make contact with other bots.
To solve the tilt problem, I created the tilted motor
mount shown in Figure 5.
I attached the mount to the front cover using nylon
screws as shown in Figure 6. After testing, I added a little
more angle to the mount and integrated it into the front
cover as shown in Figure 7.
