In 2011, I went to the Maker Faire (Bay area in CA) and saw several mobile robots that
were PC based and using the
Microsoft Kinect sensor for
navigation and obstacle
avoidance. It was fascinating to
see how well they could detect
objects and humans in their path.
The robots at the Faire were using
the recently released (at the time)
Microsoft SDK (software
development kit) for the Kinect.
When I got home, I really wanted
to learn how to use this sensor, so
I did a web search and discovered
there was a new book called
Cal Averas —
As most of my
projects go, one
build or idea leads
me down an
unknown path and
usually becomes
something totally
different than
what I originally
imagined.
