Clash of the Bots 2014
; by Michael Jeffries
Clash of the Bots 2014 took place in Gastonia, NC at the Schiele Museum on July 19th. This was
the fifth Clash of the Bots event and
the eighth overall event put on by
Carolina Combat Robots. Clash of the
Bots consisted of 150 g, 1 lb, and 3 lb
robot combat in a double elimination
bracket, plus a round robin Bot
Hockey tournament.
The Bot Hockey event consisted of
three teams: Team Pneusance, Team
Scotch Pies, and Team Chaos. The
format for the match involves each
team fielding three robots, each
weighing up to 15 lbs. These teams of
three attempt to score as many goals
as possible in a 10 minute period. At
the end of the 10 minutes, the team
with the most points is declared the
winner.
Due to the round robin format, a
tiebreaker rule was established
declaring that the overall winner in
the event of a tie in the bracket would
go to the team with the most goals.
The first match (Figure 1) was Team
Pneusance against Team Scotch Pies
with Team Pneusance winning the
match 13-8.
The second face-off was between
Team Chaos and Team Scotch Pies
with Team Scotch Pies winning 18-13.
The final match saw Team Chaos go
up against Team Pneusance with
Team Chaos winning 14-8.
The tiebreaker rule had to be
used, and the overall winner was
Team Chaos with 27 points, followed
by Team Scotch Pies with 26 points,
and Team Pneusance with 21 points.
