vise so that it will clear it for the next step. From the MDI
tab in Mach 3, type “G01 Y.0625” (Figure 8). Hit the enter
key and the machine should move the bit to that position
on the Y axis. We are doing this to center the 1/8” bit over
the edge of the rear jaw.
To complete the process, zero the Y axis one more time
by again hitting the “Zero Y” button shown in Figure 9.
The Y axis is now referenced.
Set X Axis Reference
The procedure for referencing the X axis is very similar
to that of the Y axis. Start by moving the bit back to the
center of the vise and below the top of the vise stop. Next,
use the arrow keys to position the bit so it just touches the
vise stop as in Figure 10. Hit the “Zero X” button (Figure
11). Next, raise the bit so that it will clear the stop, then
from the MDI tab type “G01 X-.0625” as shown in Figure
12. Hit enter and the machine should center the bit over
the edge of the stop. Zero the X axis one more time; the X
axis is now referenced.
