BUILD REP RT
Get Flippen
● by Chad New
Due to the weight
limitations in the smaller,
insect-sized robots, it is often
hard to come across designs
other than the powerful brushless
motor spinners or plain ol’ wedge
robots. Frustrated by
this, I set out to build
a unique ant weight
robot ( 1 lb) that would
also be competitive
with the current generation of combatants. I
found my inspiration
for this new robot in
the super heavyweight
class — Ziggy.
Ziggy is a titanium
clad juggernaut which
wields a pneumatic
four-bar throwing arm
capable of tossing
other robots to the
ceiling. Obviously, with
the weight limitations
in the ant weight
class, I could not
exactly recreate Ziggy’s
performance; however,
the following is an account of my
build attempting to do so.
The goal of this robot was to
emulate Ziggy and its throwing
system, so naturally I started with
Get Flippen’s Garolite arm assembled
and ready to be installed on the base.
The new base plate cut
out and sporting the new
four-bar throwing arm.
