I/O BOARD
Elexol’s GPI/O 32
Board Provides
Expanded Inputs
/Outputs via a
SPI connection to
the I/O 24 Range
The GPI/O 32 Board is an accessory board that allows
up to 32 I/O pins to be controlled through a single
port connection on Elexol’s I/O 24 Range. The Elexol I/O
24 Range consists of Ether I/O 24 R, Ether I/O 24 DIP R,
USB I/O 24 R, and the USB I/O 24 DIP R.
The GPI/O 32 Board incorporates 2 x MCP23S17
GPIO expanders which are split up into four eight-bit
ports (two ports per MCP23S17). This allows up to 32
I/O pins to be controlled via the Elexol I/O 24 SPI
Protocol.
Applications
• Home/industrial automation
• Remote monitoring systems
• Any other use where an analog input or output is
required
Features
• 2 x MCP23S17 GPIO expander ICs
• 4 x I/O ports matching configuration of I/O 24 port
• Hardware addressable pins for each SPI device
• 72 mm standard width for DIN rail modules
• Compact measurements 40 x 72 x 11 mm (DIN rail
mountable with adaptor)
Benefits
• Provides the existing I/O 24 range with more port
interfaces
• Easy software implementation through Elexol I/O 24
SPI Protocol

TOOLS
Halide-Free, Lead-Free,
Water Soluble Solder Paste
Cookson Electronics announces the launch of ALPHA®
WS-820 halide-free, lead-free, water-soluble solder
paste. This new product offers
excellent printability with print volume and print repeatability down
to 12 mil (0.3 mm) features and
has an excellent reflow process
window with straight ramp, short
soak, or long soak profiles in air.
“WS-820 is the latest generation water soluble, lead free paste
in ALPHA’s long tradition of
manufacturing high performance
solder pastes. It is designed to
provide excellent print performance
at both low and high relative humidity
(20% to 65%), and it offers IPC 7095
Class III resistance to voiding. WS-820 is
also very easy to clean with warm de-ionized
water, leaving virtually no ionic contamination behind,”
said Mitch Holtzer, ALPHA’s Global Product Manager.
Available in SAC305 and SAC405 alloys and in
Type 3 and 4 powder, ALPHA WS-820 delivers excellent
wetting characteristics on all common surface finishes,
including Entek HT OSP.

CIRCUIT MODULES
Six Regulated Power Modules
SchmartBoard has released six useful single voltage
regulated power SchmartModules which are designed
to offer a quick, easy, and inexpensive option for users to
power up their circuits. SchmartBoards connect together
and are called “Electronic Circuit Building Blocks.”
The purpose of SchmartBoard’s prototyping system
is for users to easily hand solder components onto
SchmartBoards using “ez” technology, which makes
soldering any surface-mount component easy.
“SchmartBoard is similar in approach to software
development, but for electronic circuit prototyping,” says
Neal Greenberg, SchmartBoards VP of sales and marketing. “In software, one may design the core code and
add popular software blocks around it rather than rewriting code that already exists. These SchmartModules are
the equivalent of software blocks that an engineer would
source and glue to his code. Why redesign or solder a
popular circuit block such as RS-232 for instance? We
now have power and I/O SchmartModules and will be
adding many more modules over the coming months.”
The regulated power modules come in 1.5, 1.8, 2.5,
3. 3, 5, and 9 volts. For further information, contact:
