ENCODERS
New Eight-Channel Quadrature
Encoder Module
Measurement
Computing now
offers a new high-speed,
eight-channel quadrature
encoder module.
The high-performance
USB-QUAD08 data
acquisition device provides
simultaneous input and decoding for up to eight
incremental quadrature encoders at resolutions up to
48 bits. Its eight quadrature counters with indicator LEDs
support both differential and single-ended inputs, and
feature multiple programmable counting modes. The
counters have less than 10 ns jitter and accept input up
to 10 MHz. The streaming speed to the PC is software
configurable up to 8 MS/s. The USB-QUAD08 can also
serve as a high-speed pulse counter for general counting
applications. The eight digital I/O bits support up to
42. 4 Vpk/50 VDC with clamping diodes for CEMF
suppression. The USB-QUAD08 operates under Microsoft
Windows 2000/XP/Vista® (32-bit) operating systems.

GadgetPC — Ultra Low Power
Computer
Bi-POM Electronics,
Inc., is offering
GadgetPC — a small,
ultra low power, high
performance computer
system based on the
latest generation of
Atmel ARM9
microcontrollers.Taking
advantage of low cost,
off-the-shelf USB gadgets
such as webcams, USB
drives, network cards,
Aircards, Zigbee, Bluetooth, USB hard drives, and many
others, GadgetPC opens a new path of computing and
embedded applications — especially with mobile robotics
— that would normally be difficult to implement with
powerful PC systems.
GadgetPC has an open architecture with standard
software components. It can run high level operating
systems such as Linux. Power consumption of the base
board is well under one watt, eliminating the need for
heatsinks and fans normally required on motherboards.
GadgetPC comes with Linux pre-installed and runs
many standard applications such as the web server, ftp
server, Telnet server, OpenSSH, Firewall, router, network
time server, email, fax server, and many others.
GadgetPC is fully backed by warranty, with technical
support and application assistance available from
Bi-POM.
