The scientists maintain a separate laptop on the dock
to receive communications from the ASV’s via Wi-Fi. This
serves to monitor the boats and send them new mission

information. The dockside laptop retrieves mission
confirmations, the location of waypoints, and the boat’s
locations on a satellite image. All other programming runs
on the ASV’s computers.
Scientists use these ASVs to observe water in the
marina, as well as at some lakes and nearby water bodies.
They collect the data to form a scientific model of the
aquatic environment in order to determine causes of
HABs that threaten marine life. SV
