DIY Opportunity
While the LEGO® CUUSOO NASA Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Rover 21104 kit is garnering
all of the buzz these days, finding a model for the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity can be
very difficult. That is, until you remember this vintage LEGO model kit: Mars Exploration Rover
7471. Long ago retired, you can still find the building instructions for this historic model at
http://service.lego.com/en-us/buildinginstructions/.
Search for "7471 Mars Exploration Rover Discovery" and you'll be able to download the
complete 121 page plan set for building your own Opportunity. (Hint: If you want to print the
instructions on letter size paper, download the file named BI 7471 NA.)
NASA's Mars Exploration rover Opportunity's panoramic camera (Pancam) took these images during
the interval January 3, 2014 to January 6, 2014 — a few days after winds removed some of the dust
that had been accumulating on the rover's solar panels.
You can learn more about each member of the NASA Mars rover
family, as well as follow along with each Martian close encounter at
