The Hardware (and Costs)
• 4D Systems’ uCAM-II Serial Camera Module, $49
• 4D Systems’ Picadillo 35T ( 80 MHz PIC32, 512K
Flash, 128K RAM), about $99
• Some prototyping wires
I connect the uCMA-II +5V and ground to P2 5V
and GND (see Figure 1). I am using UART1 for my
serial connection, the Tx of the camera is connected to
pin 16, and the Rx of the camera is connected to pin
15 on connector P1.
• UECIDE IDE software (Freeware)
• Majenko TFT library (Freeware)
I chose the Picadillo 35T hardware because along
with the UECIDE development environment, it also
presented a very friendly programmer environment
with a LOT of fellow user support and online forums.

ast month, I showed how to interface a 4D Systems’ uCAM-II to a Digilent
MAX32 board with a (discontinued) NKC color LCD shield. I told you how the
camera appeared to have issues with "blooming," and that I would try it on
another graphics platform to see whether it was the camera or the graphics
display. Ta da! This month, I deliver on that promise. I recently acquired a 4D
Systems’ Picadillo 35T board, which is a sort of combination of their 3. 5" Intelligent LCD
display and a Digilent MAX32 board with a sort of Digilent Uno32 I/O layout (see my
January 2015 column for details).
Okay, that sounds kind of weird, but stay with me. This is a cool combination requiring only
a few wires to be connected. Really! I'll try to follow my April 2015 article format so you
can do comparisons, and I've repeated the essential code bits here so you don't have to go
back and forth between issues.
