despite suffering quite a lot of damage
(Figure 49), then did well before being
beaten by MegatRon in the winner’s
bracket and then by Triggo in the
loser’s bracket.
Triggo recovered from its early
setback by running through the loser’s
bracket, wrecking Gloomy in the
process (Figure 50) and surviving a
close judge’s decision against
Whammo, before meeting and beating
MegatRon twice in the finals.
MegatRon had lost the power to
actuate his saw arm and could
not self-right. Triggo was the
clear winner, but MegatRon was
a very worthy runner-up.
It had snowed all day
Saturday, and was almost a
blizzard by the time fights
stopped that evening. Everyone
got to their hotels safely and
back in on Sunday morning.
We had to head straight
back to Raleigh, NC after the
event, and had expected to be able to
get going by about 5: 30 pm.
However, with my Beetleweight,
Trilobite and my Hobbyweight, Isotelus
Rex both getting to the finals, and
there being just so many bots, it was
about 8: 30 pm before the very last
fight was completed (Trilobite vs.
Speed Wedge 3) and the prizes
awarded. Only then could we get
packed up and on our way.
The weather at least helped out,
and a big thaw on Sunday cleared the
roads (it was still 3: 30 am before we
finally got back home).
Our bots had done pretty well.
Weta had gone 2-2, but was wrecked
and will need a redesign and rebuild
before its next event. However, Trilobite
and Isotelus Rex had both earned
second places in pretty tough
competitions.
With luck, we will be back next
year with more and better bots. I’m
already thinking about a 30 lb spinner
and a 12 lb shell spinner. If they get
built, readers of SERVO will be the first
to see them. SV
