aluminum backplate
(Photo 4).
Ash landed
another hit directly
after that which
flipped its foe over
onto its back where it
could still drive, but
was massively
impaired without a
wedge. Because of the
lower ground
clearance of Snappy
while on its back, it
got one wheel caught on the lip
between the arena floor tiles, giving
me a perfect opportunity to get a nice
hit on the backplate again (Photo 5).
Unfortunately, though, this was
the end of the fight as the receiver
pack was run down again, leaving
Snappy the victor albeit with a few
nibbles taken out of him (Photo 6).
Post event, Ash was completely
unscathed, but I did learn a few
things that need to be done to get it
working to its full potential. First, it
needs larger wheels as the ones it
currently has were low enough that it
got caught on the lip between the
floor tiles a few times.
Secondly, it needs a new wedge
as the four
millimeter steel one
put it barely within
the weight limit, and
finally a new
weapon is needed.
The current bar
works okay, but a
thicker single tooth
weapon would make
the hits much
harder, as well as having the control
of a four wheel drive pusher which is
what I really want from it as a
competitor.
Overall, I think once Ash has
these modifications it could go far in
its class, and hopefully in the future I
can build another bot. For now,
though, I think I’ll just concentrate on
getting Ash working fully and getting
Terminus active for demos and fun
fights.
Ash is currently sitting on my
desk, awaiting the modifications once
the funds are available or for the next
event to come around — whichever
comes first (Photo 7). SV
