use the jog control to reduce the jog speed 5% of the CNC
machine’s maximum travel speed. This is done by entering
5% in the “Slow Jog Rate” field shown in Figure 4.
This will slow the machine down enough to allow us to
fine-tune the reference points.
The next step is to load the milling bit. In this case, we
will be using a 1/8” two-flute carbide router bit. Using the
arrow keys, move the CNC so that the router bit is centered
in the vise as shown in Figure 5. Use the page up and
down keys to lower the bit so that it is just below the top
of the vise.
Now, use the arrow keys to slowly move the bit until it
just touches the rear jaw on the vise as in Figure 6.
Zero the Y axis in Mach 3 by hitting the “Zero Y”
button shown in Figure 7. Next, move the bit up above the
