I'll be the first to admit that I like the D2. It's a sturdy, reliable, four- wheeled platform capable of
exceptional performance in the
Beetleweight division. D2s have
already showcased themselves on the
Seattle circuit, beating former
RoboGames champions and — in the
case of Blue Thunder — winning a
championship themselves. When well
driven, D2s are capable of handling a
wide variety of bots — up to and
including the best Beetleweights in
world. Thankfully for some (and to
the dislike of others), the D2 is a kit
available for many to purchase. While
the kits include plenty of instructions
on how to physically assemble the D2,
there are no diagrams on how to wire
it up — until now. In this article, you'll
learn how to wire together a D2.
Major thanks go to Matt Penick
of Robot Roundabout for helping me
with this. This article wouldn't have
gotten done without him.

Wiring Up a D2

1. The D2 kit
comes with four
22 mm 1,000
RPM motors.
Wiring is not
included as
standard, so be
sure to snip
yourself some to
a length you're
comfortable
with. You'll need
one red and one
black wire for
each motor.
